Services: Under Maryland law, any person who has been treated by a physician or a hospital for a stroke during the past two years must report this disorder to the Motor Vehicle Administration, for evaluation by the Medical Advisory Board. A doctor's certification about the disability is required (giving diagnosis, onset, prognosis, present medications) on the doctor's stationery. The information must be referred to the Medical Advisory Board for approval. An applicant may be required to take a reaction time test or retake the driving test, or may be issued a waiver by mail. The MVA provides information about Special Registration plates, Parking Privileges for Disabled Persons (applications also available at senior centers), re-qualifying for a driver's license after having a stroke. Call toll free 1-800-950-1682 to obtain a copy of a pamphlet entitled, "The Handicapped Motorist: Special Privileges and Responsibilities When Owning and Operating a Motor Vehicle."
