RECOVERY FROM STROKE ("BRAIN ATTACK")

Medications (such as T-PA) given within 3 hours of the onset of stroke symptoms can sometimes reverse or significantly reduce the effects of stroke. At the first signs of an impending stroke, CALL 911.

The sooner rehabilitation starts, the better outcomes will be. The three most common types of rehabilitation services related to stroke recovery are physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology services. Please refer to our "Glossary" section for definitions of these terms and to our "Services" section for a partial listing of local providers of these services.

Patient motivation and family support are also key factors in achieving successful outcomes. It is important to note that significant progress often continues for years after the stroke has occurred.
