MONTGOMERY COUNTY STROKE ASSOCIATION
APPRECIATES AND WILL NEVER FORGET
THE LEADERSHIP AND FRIENDSHIP OF IRV LIPSKIND (1925-2012)
Irving Lipskind was born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 3, 1925. He graduated from Brooklyn College (NY) and Trinity University (San Antonio, TX). Irv served in the U.S. Air Force and was an active member of the Jewish War Veterans. He married his wife, Diane, in 1951. They had three children--Ken (deceased), Susan, and Bruce--and were the proud grandparents of three grandchildren. Irv was a teacher at Highland View School and was the principal (possibly the youngest principal at that school) of Bells Mill School in Montgomery County, Md.
Irv had a stroke at the age of 50, which with left him with right-sided weakness and speech challenges. He played a significant role in the development of the Montgomery County Stroke Association, serving as a member of the Board of Directors for many years and as its president three times (1993-1995, 2000-2001, and October 2008). He was instrumental in the establishment of the “Stroke Folks” (sponsored by the Gaithersburg Upcounty Senior Center) and what is now MCSA’s Upper County Chapter. Irv helped revive the Silver Spring Chapter and served as its Chapter Chairperson a few years ago. Then, after moving from Kensington, Md., to Leisure World in Silver Spring, Md., Irv became an active member of the Leisure World Chapter of MCSA.
Irv passed away at the age of 86 on Saturday, May 26, 2012, and was buried on May 30th. Several MCSA members attended the funeral, and a food platter was sent to the family on behalf of the Montgomery County Stroke Association.
Memorial contributions in honor of Irv Lipskind may be sent to MCSA, P.O. Box 9343, Silver Spring, MD 20916-9343. Acknowledgement cards will be sent to Diane Lipskind and to the donor(s).
