FAQ: Registering & Logging In

Questions

Answers
Question: How and why should I register for a web account?
Answer: Registering for a web account will allow you to have access to all of the features on our website. For example, without a web account, you will be able to view messages in the Forum but will not be able to submit your own comments or reply to someone else's posting.

To register, please do the following:

1. Click on the Quicklink to "Online Registration" or click on any of the red "Register" links in the "Registration Options" section of the Home Page. This will take you to our Registration page.

2. On the registration page, you may choose to register for a web account, or to receive our E-mail Bulletin, or to become a member of the MCSA. (Registering for MCSA membership will give you the web account and E-mail Bulletin privileges as well as providing other benefits.)

3. Fill in the fields (boxes) as indicated in the section for registering for a web account, if this is what you want to do. (We encourage you to regiter for MCSA membership as well).

4. Please complete the "Optional Information" section at the bottom of the page. This information is confidential (your name is never connected with your data). We need this kind of demographic information when we apply for grants.

5. When you have finished, check your replies for accuracy, and then click on "Click to Register" at the bottom.

6. After you submit your filled-in registration form, a message will be sent to your e-mail address with further instructions. You must follow these instructions in order to confirm and complete the registration process. This extra step is for your protection -- so that someone else cannot register you without your consent.

Note: Once you have registered successfully, you will LOG IN, not REGISTER, on the Homepage when you revisit the website. To log in, go to the log-in box and enter your user name and your password. Then click on "LOG IN."

Question: How and why should I register for the "E-mail Bulletin?"
Answer: Registering for the "E-Bulletin" will enable you to receive our free e-mail bulletin, which we send monthly (sometimes more often). This bulletin will inform you about upcoming MCSA events or other "breaking news" of interest to stroke survivors and their caregivers

Question: How do I "log in" after I have registered?
Answer: After you have registered, when you re-visit our website, here are the instructions to "log in" at the log-in box (located at the top right corner of the Home Page):

1. Enter your "user name" in top right.
2. Enter your password in top right.
3. Click on the "LOG IN" button to the right.

Do not click on the "REGISTER" button unless you have not yet registered.

If you get a message saying "Invalid username or password," try again. Perhaps you typed in the words incorrectly. Enter the user name and password very carefully, and be sure to use the same upper or lower case letters that you used when you registered. Remember, the user name and password should be no more than 15 characters long and should not contain any spaces.

If you have forgotten either your password or your user name -- or both of them-- use the "Reminder" feature.
Question: What is a "user name"?
Answer: A "user name" is a name you choose to use in order to identify yourself on this website. It can be your real name, your e-mail name, or any "alias" you wish to make up. If you choose to use your e-mail address name, DO NOT include the "@aol.com" (or whatever ISP you use), because this will make the user name too long for our system. Your user name should be no more than 15 characters long (with no spaces between words).

We suggest that you pick a user name that you will remember easily. Write it down and keep it handy for easy access later. If you forget your user name (or password), you can use our "Reminder" feature.
Question: What is my password?
Answer: Your password is a word you have made up and chosen to use. This password is intended to prevent someone else from using your account. It should be a word that is easy for you to remember, but difficult for someone else to guess. It is suggested (not required) that your password be at least 6 characters long and contain both letters and numbers.

If you have already registered but cannot "log in" because you have forgotten your password, use the "Reminder" feature.
Question: What should I do if I forgot my user name or password?
Answer: Relax. If you have forgotten either your user name or password -- or both -- help is at hand. Simply use the "Reminder" feature (located near the Log-in box at the top right corner of Home Page). Just follow the instructions that you will be shown.

If you have forgotten only your user name, type your password into the log-in box and then click on "Reminder." Then follow the instructions you will be given.

If you have forgotten only your password, type your user name into the log-in box and then click on "Reminder." Then follow the instructions you will be given.

If you have forgotten both your user name and your password, first use the "Reminder" feature to get your user name. Then type your user name into the log-in box and use the "Reminder" feature to get your password. Then follow the instructions you will be given.

Note: Information about your user name and/or password might be sent to your e-mail address, so check there for instructions to complete the process.
