Siblings with Ischemic Stroke Study

You may be eligible to join the SWISS Study if you have had an ischemic stroke and you have a living bother or sister who has had an ischemic stroke. An ischemic stroke is caused by a blockage of the blood flow through your blood vessels. No appointments are necessary. The study requires that a blood sample be obtained from you and your sibling. A trained phlebotomist would come to your home and draw blood from you. The blood sample would be stripped of all personal information for the sake of confidentiality. The blood sample would be sent to a lab where they isolate the genetic material called DNA. The study may help us to understand what caused your stroke and the strokes of many other people including your family members.

For more information, please contact Mary J. Sparks RN by phone (1-866-747-5749) or send e-mail to nzappala@som.umaryland.edu .
